I didn't know anything about Jo until she showed up on the show (way before I started reading spoilers, LOL) and I don't/didn't like her.
She has no valid reason for being on the show.
Everytime I thought I could take her being on the show she did something that messed it all up. Using an arcade shooting game to show that she can be a billy-bad-ass hunter and can hustle money-totally stupid and way too obnoxious. The whole "You can't keep me here" scene comes to mind too. Way too over the top. I'm not sure who to blame for that one though, her acting or the writers.
Then there's the whole "He's possessed" thing, I mean c'mon, what kind of hunter are you if you can't even tell when somebody's possessed?
I did like her and Dean in No Exit, except when she got the dumb grin when she got Dean to lie to her mom. Again, way too childish.
I think they had a good idea, but somewhere someone went terribly wrong with her character and seriously fucked it up. She was way to immature for SN.

Know what scene comes to mind for me? When she was so excited to tell Sam and Dean about the hunt in No Exit. She actually stomped. her. foot. at her mother.
*weeps at the sheer immaturity* |

Well, I don't know who it was but I agree with his/her idea that Jo appeared in like 4 epis and yet so many people diss her, they say she's a terrible character and she can't change but that person talked about another character from SN that appeared like in 18 epis and it took all those epis for that character to change and to get likable. Let's give Jo another chance and good stories to evolve. _________________

I know this is an old post - but I'm going to weigh in here. I wasn't a fan of the actress or the charatcer - at first. However I think she improved by the time Born Under a Bad Sign aired. She (Jo) looked really freaked out when Sam was telling her about how her father died.
Also, she knew that she wasn't that popular with the fans, and yet she still graciously showed up at the Asylum Con in the UK and (according to fan reports) was really nice. _________________ Linda W

You know what, Linda? I agree. I did enjoy Alona and Jo by extension in BUABS. The more often I watch the episode, the more I warm to her. I still very much dislike Jo up until "No Exit", though. I think Alona did a great job of maturing Jo between then and BUABS, and it fit with the show considering Jo was finally leaving her mother's house and striking out on her own. I wouldn't mind seeing her come back into the picture, now. Of course, I still don't think romance between Jo and Dean is at all something they should try for. It just isn't...right. They don't fit. They're more brother/sister than a couple in my eyes.
And yes, I was very impressed to find out that Alona had attended Asylum! And I felt pretty awful for her when I heard that she'd admitted to being hurt at the extremely negative reaction the fans had had to her character. Hopefully she's read more recent fan reports (ie. post-BUABS) and her confidence is back up, because I've noticed that there's a lot of Alona/Jo support going around now. |

I know what you mean. I can't see her as a love interest, cause there just was zero chemistry in that respect. And you are so right about her maturing in BUABS. Leaving home does that to a person!
I think if Jo continued to grow-up and popped into their lives from time to time as a more helpful person (and not childish or as a love interest), I think the fans would eventually have accepted her.
It did bother me that some folks were so hateful, and it obviously got to her - but hey, good for her - she's on a new series starting this fall - and I wouldn't be against her coming back every now and then.
