Why do we appreciate Jensen Ackles...This is a thread inspired by my CW thread Why do we appreciate Jensen Ackles...
I made that thread to give Jensen the credit he deserves, to admire his acting and his personality in the first place, not only his looks. And also to make a list of movies/roles we would love to see Jensen in.
Welcome to "Why do we appreciate Jensen Ackles..." thread!
I have decided to make this thread because I think Jensen Ackles deserves some serious threads as well. Having watched Jimmy Kimmel's interview with Jensen, which was in my opinion quite "unlucky" (*), I have finally decided to take courage and try to make a serious thread about Jensen Ackles.
I am not saying I have never written anything about Jensen being hot, sexy, great-looking and so on. I am an ordinary woman and I sometimes love and need to talk about good-looking men. I can become pretty "guttery" from time to time too but none of this means I do not appreciate Jensen Ackles as an amazing actor and a very nice person he seems to be in the first place.
What can we talk about in this thread?
1) Jensen Ackles' talent
2) Jensen Ackles' work (TV shows, movies)
3) Jensen Ackles' roles
4) Which of his TV shows/movies is your favourite and why?
5) Which of his roles is your favourite one and why?
6) Are there any TV shows/movies/roles you would like Jensen Ackles to see in and why?
I may add other suggestions later.
Please, try to avoid these topics in this thread:
1) Appreciating any of Jensen Ackles' body parts --> There could be other threads made here for this. And remember, reducing a very talented actor to his body parts is not polite. I know most of us do it just for fun but yet, it is quite rude, and the more considering how shy Jensen Ackles seems to be. Try not to make him feel uncomfortable!
2) Using words like hot/smoking/sexy/yummy and alike --> Jensen Ackles is a very good-looking man but is it really the thing we admire most about him? Try to imagine any of his roles with his good looks but WITHOUT his talent. Would they be so amazing then?
3) Using "guttery" language --> If you feel like making a "guttery" comment, feel free to visit CW's Gutter Gardens, Gutter Girls, Pink Tutus or other "guttery-friendly" threads or even guttery threads on this forum, if there are any in the future.
I may add other suggestions later.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(*) --> Was it really necessary for Mr Kimmel to keep talking about Jensen's appearance and rabid fans although it was quite obvious that Jensen felt really uncomfortable about it and wanted to talk more about his work than about his girlfriend? Why did we not see any Supernatural clips? No Ten Inch Hero clips, news or questions? Though I was really pleased to see Jensen in a talk show and realize again how intelligent, kind, funny, nice and laid-back he seems to be.

I think the reason we had no thread for how much we love Jensen was that we'd been gushing about him, his talent, etc all over the other threads in every other section.
But I might as well reiterate my love here, for there can't be enough Jensen!love going around.
Jensen is one of those actors that can actually ACT. He completely lives his character, and I think we've all seen that perfectly with Dean. From his interviews and appearances, we've seen how much of an adorably shy DORK the man is, which is totally different from Dean who is a cocky, confident man who's not afraid to run in with both guns blazing. Yet Jensen is what brings life to Dean. His expressions are especially drool-worthy from an acting standpoint. I don't think I've seen another actor with such a wide range of CONTROLLED facial expressions. <3
I haven't watched a lot of his stuff, but I don't think that matters so much. The difference between Jason on Smallville and Dean on Supernatural is so very obvious -- Jensen definitely belongs in a lead role. Being a recurring secondary character doesn't allow an actor to develop their character like Jensen has with Dean.

Yes, love for Jensen all around. Hope he isn't sick of all this love.
And here they are again! Famous Jensen's facial expressions! Yes. I'm saying it all the time. He should have a copyright on them! It's such a blessing for an actor to be able to convey so much with mimics and gestures.
But here, I must disagree. Great actors can bring to life even very secondary characters. Sometimes, their characters (appearing only in some scenes, or being "only" in supportive roles) outshine the actor in the leading role.
I think I get what you wanted to say. That you have to live with a character for a long time and appear in every scene to lead the character as far as Jensen did with Dean. But yet:
There aren't small roles, only small actors. (I don't know what's the exact English translation for this sentence.)
And yes, Jensen is such a shy, adorable sweetie.

Hey Husitka, i didnt know you were here too...coool i just found this place when somebody posted a link in my old folks home thread....i was getting a bit tired of feeling out of place there...hehehehe
but yes i am still an avid fan of Jensen's, I love how he puts his all into every performance...he captivates you with his performance, and never fails to surprise you with even more intensity. He's one of the few actors who can really pull that off.

Hi, new here!
I wanted to chime in and say add me to the list. Jensen is an amazing actor. He pulls off a dark and twisty, complex character w/out a hitch. His shy, humble personality is icing on the cake. I just love him!

Jensen as an actor Call me slow or whatever, but I didn't even notice Jensen's good looks until I was way long hooked by the show. His acting ability is simply so good that you really see the Dean character and not JA. Of course, in a lot of the shows he is covered in mud, blood, or some other muck! And the lights are always out, hence the great need for flashlights in SN.
Jensen would be great as a follow-up to Bruce Willis in the Die Hard series. I saw "Live Free or Die Hard" recently, and it was really great. Bruce Willis is getting older, but he was great. Maybe Jensen could be introduced as a new side-kick partner (that John McClain doesn't want), and then John could get killed dramatically (in the line of duty) and Jensen could take over as the "Lone Ranger" with revenge on his mind! Sounds like a great movie! I would hate to see the "Die Hard" series end--it should go on like "James Bond".
The other idea for Jensen as Indiana Jones would be utterly brilliant. I can just see him in that leather jacket and hat--and don't forget the whip! Jensen certainly has the ability to make the wise cracks and facial expressions of extreme fear, shock, etc. needed by Indiana Jones.
Jensen would also be great as a street-wise cop in a TV series or movie. Maybe a calmer, more gentle approach as a reprisal to the "Dirty Harry" series We can't have too many abusive cops--the people might have a riot in LA or somewhere
Oh, and here's my best idea--but it's for a commercial, which Jensen may not want to do. He could appear on an ad for American Express (credit card) and explain how AE protects it's customers from credit card theft Jensen could give one of his charming smiles, and then show a credit card with his signature I know Jensen could pull this one off easy, and probably make some big $$ doing it OK -- so I can't relate to the long red-haired snow boarding dude who is doing their commercials now--maybe AE would attract a different market --after all, I don't have one of their cards

I first saw Jensen in Smallville, and actually thought he was too pretty! I wasn't a fan of his at all ----UNTIL ----- when he started to get evil on Smallville I noticed that I liked him better. He didn't look so pretty, and he wasn't going ga ga for Lana.
I never really noticed what a spectacular actor he was until Supernatural. Then, of course, I had to go out and buy Dark Angel, and npw I'm a 100% bona fide Jensen Ackles-aholic.
Love his freckles too! OK - I had to mention something about his good looks!

I heard someone say on an old podcast that they loved his arm (the little bit that showed) in BUABS (where Jo is sloppily putting on a bandage). She said his arm was all big and shiny, and it got her all excited!

Yes I noticed the arm too when Jo was trying to patch him up! Jo did seem a little nervous--obviously she was really attracted to him. Probably wasn't too hard for Alona to pull off that bit of acting

I remember him from DOOL and, of course, DA. Then came Smallville. I agree that I liked Jason more as he became "darker" toward the end. Started crushing on him a bit. LOVE Dean - so much like Alec from DA, but a little more grown up.
I have to agree that he embodies his roles. He, honestly, is #7 on my top ten list of actors (a list that includes Tommy Lee Jones and John Lithgow among others - not exactly "pretty boys").
To be on MY top ten list, you need to be able to do drama and comedy and BE the role. Not - oh look at how good JA is in this role. He IS the role. Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic actor.
Okay, yeah, he's hot. I won't mention any body parts since we aren't supposed to - like for example his truly awesome ass. Instead I'll just say again that he really is a fantastic actor and he's still pretty young (I really should NOT be having such dirty thoughts about the boy) which means he's got time to get BETTER. If that's possible. He's just incredible right now.
In the episode "Heart?" That flinch at the end and the single tear drop? MASTERFUL!!! Truly, truly a masterpiece. And holy rusted metal, I don't think anyone can doubt that performance in AHBL2. Sheesh! And his comedy is just fantastic. Truly love his expressions - and his performance in Season 3 (okay, eps 2 & 3 of season 3 - what the crap was up with episode 1? Everyone but Jim Beaver seemed to be off their game), especially Bad Day at Black Rock - fantastic!!!

Well, I noticed him in DA first and at the beginning I just liked him because of his great looks but slowly I started realizing what a fine actor he was and wanted to see him in other projects, and that's how I got into SN. I love Alec but I must say Dean is such a complex and beautiful character! One of the best movie/TV characters actually. And I think Jensen as Dean can show almost all of his talent. What a great role and opportunity for him!
I think Die Hard series is already on the list. The same with Indy. Not sure with the street-wise cop, I must check on this one. Great idea.
That commercial idea is pretty funny.

I haven't seen all of S4 Smallville yet. But I also thought Jason was too nice and perfect at the beginning.
I think what you have said shows pretty well how his looks influences the way people perceive him. Like he needs to work harder for people to notice him and recognize his talent, not just see another pretty face.

I read st like that somewhere too. There was st about Alona Tal liking Jensen a lot, so she got really nervous when they had to shoot scenes together.
I read Jensen was moving his arm when getting ready for that one scene (when Jo is dressing up Dean's wound) and Alona went: Could you stop it, please? I can't focus. Or st like that. If it's true, it's really cute and funny.
I even read somewhere that Jensen felt very sorry for Alona because of fans' reaction to Jo.

Yes, Jensen has got a great potential, he's a fantastic actor and as he's still pretty young, I think he could get even better (which I honestly can't imagine ). His performances are breathtaking and I think Jared learned a lot from Jensen too.
Ok, you just had to mention that body part, right?
Well, I still think Jensen's best performance in S2 wasn't in AHBL but in WIAWSNB.
And yes, he was really great in TKAA and in BDaBR. I'm Batman! And that face.
Jensen is so great at comedy and imo, it's the most difficult piece of acting. And his facial expressions are priceless. What he can convey with his eyes and face is unbelievable.
Yes, I think ep #1 was the weakest one from those 3 but I still liked it. And # 2 and 3 were just amazing. Jensen was incredible and Jared too. He's improved again in comparison to S2.
S3 ROCKS!!! And I'm so happy for everybody who's involved in making SN for us, fans, because there were so many negative voices about S3.

Yeah, I know. I was just responding to something someone else had said. I've waxed poetic about Jensen and his extraordinary acting skills on pretty much every single thread I've ever created/responded to on this forum.
He never fails to impress me. And yes, I agree with what someone said above that WIAWSNB and AHBL1&2 were AMAZING performances. He blew me away. The depth of emotion he brings to a character, whether it's despair, anger, hilarity, smugness, whatever, is just fantastic. And I honestly think that Jared has done nothing but improve since working with him.
|
megaera
|
I have to agree on Jared really improving. Season 1 he was "good" but typical t.v. actor good. You've got to be at least decent (usually) to get a role in the first place but in Season 2, wow!
And although I do think that is due in part to working w/Jensen (from all reports he is a consummate professional and I'm sure a great example), my understanding is that Jared has an on-set acting coach. AND Jensen has made use of the coach himself! I guess no matter how phenomenal you are, you can still learn, hmmm?
|
Sarah
|
Oh, definitely. No matter how good you are at what you do, there is always always room for improvement. And being professionals, why wouldn't they go looking for ways to make themselves better?
I also think that working with a very close friend and a very friendly, laidback crew would make it a lot easier to focus on their work and becoming better actors. If you're going to work wishing you didn't have to spend time with somebody or spending the day stressed and unhappy, it's not very conducive to learning or giving your all.
This show has definitely been a boon for these boys. I think so, anyway.

I know, I was joking. I won't punish you. Yet.
Yes, the depth and the range of emotions he can convey is amazing but I think there's more to it. He works with all his body - how he walks, how he moves, how he stands, how he talks... Mimics, gestures, facial expressions, the tone of the voice, intonation, pauses in talking... His acting is so complex and I think that's why his performances are so breathtaking. I love how he changed his voice and walking when playing Dean. You can see/hear it very well in the Gag Reel in the 'rock-paper-scissors' scene. His posture and voice change a lot when he stops being Dean.
And yes, Jared improved a lot. It may be because of new experience, of practice, of Jensen, but I didn't find his acting all that good in S1. He's grown up on me in S2 and his performances in S3 so far - brilliant!

I've just posted it but I can post it one more time.
I didn't like Jared's acting in S1 much. I even thought he was a bit 'stiff' in some scenes. But I saw a great improvement in S2 and I'm just amazed by his acting in S3 so far.
Oh, that 'I don't know what he did to Jensen' coach?
And yes, you can always learn and get better. In fact, I believe that this will and desire to learn/grow/move further/get better/accept challenges is one of the most important features of a real professional.
And I agree with you, Sarah, friendly, relaxed working environment surely helps to do your best and give your best performances as well.

Essentially, during the Paley Festival panel for Supernatural (held right after Shadow aired, I believe) Jared was talking about his acting coach. And he said "he pushed and prodded me and I don't know what he did to Jensen..."
And just as he said that, Jensen made wide eyes and gestured vaguely like 'uhhhh', to which Jared laughed and said "It was loud." and then "But that's between ya'll and the wall."
I'm paraphrasing, but yeah.

Wasn't it hilarious, Sarah? I loved all the Paley vid, so many funny moments. So many cute moments.
Megaera, you should see it!
Paley on YouTube - Part 1 (The other parts are shown on the right side of the window. It looks like there are 10 parts altogether.)
I know it was posted for DL on ZShare as well, but I don't have the links anymore and you can't search ZShare. But I have it (in 5 parts), so if you wanted it (it's a quite good quality too), I could send it to you somehow.

Yes you are! You are totally rockingly awesome - on the downside, I uploaded onto my MP3 player and watched it on the treadmill at the gym and laughed so LOUD that I really irritated the woman next to me.
I couldn't help it!
It's not like everyone else doesn't sit around hogging the machines and just talk to each other w/o any noticeably exercise going on. At least I was actually using the machine.
Damn the cast and crew for being so funny and entertaining. Seriously, it was fantastic and I just might have to watch it again on the treadmill!
