Season 3 - New Series RegularsI'm sure many of you have by now heard about Bela and Ruby -- two sexy, powerful female hunters that could show Sam and Dean a thing or two.
It has been speculated that these two women (or at least one of them) could play a love interest.
1) How do you feel about two new series regulars?
2) How do you feel about one or both of them becoming love interests for the boys?
3) Are you worried that Dawn Ostroff is trying to turn our show into a soap opera? Or are you excited for some new 'shipping?

*reads questions*
*backs away from topic*
Sorry dear but the last time I commented on these two, I started an argument *sighs*...........
All I will say is:
1) Not happy Jan
2) If this happens then the show is officially DEAD
3) Yes *mumbles stupid woman* and no..... no 'shipping needed *crosses arms across chest*

Jan, you will be pleased to know that you are not alone on this. I watch for the brothers. I watch for the scares. The plot. The fact that it's not a soap opera.
If it turns into One Tree Hill, I'm not going to watch it on TV anymore. I'll download the episodes and see if it improves. If not... sigh.
I really just hope they do it well. And that I manage to like the girls.

Hmmmm (crap, this got long!!)Let's see. First, I'd like to say that I basically trust the Supernatural folks. They've given me two seasons of joy. I sincerely doubt they'll all of a sudden screw it all up. So, I tend not to get all up in arms, no matter what spoilers I read. I like to know what may be going on and speculate about it, but I don't get all freaked. I feel confident that, aside from the rare not-as-good-as-usual episode (and even those are good, in my opinion. And what TV series doesn't have the occasional "miss" episode?), when I tune in to Supernatural, I'll have good time!
I've thought for a while (since the point in season 2 when the boys ended up with so very much weight on their shoulders) that girls, the RIGHT girls, handled the RIGHT way, could make things interesting. I DON'T want to see them on screen every episode! (And why would we need to? These girls should be every bit as independent and involved in their own personal agendas as our guys!) I DO think that could change the purity of Supernatural (I'm hoping you know what I mean by that!). This show's main focus should always be on the Winchester brothers. The two of them, alone, doing what they do. BUT, realistically, as I think I've mentioned before, these guys would have love interests. Not necessarily ones they're joined at the hip with, due to their "profession" & stuff, but they'd be there. And, if they're up to Winchester standards; good, strong, competent matches for our guys (I've read that they may be *better*, hunter-wise, and I admit I don't care for that idea. But I'll keep trusting in Supernatural for now!) and could help them through the major shit they have to face (come on, people, a demon war?! Dean's soul contracted to a demon?! Sam's own soul and humanity in question?! The possibility still out there that Dean may have to waste his brother?! Being wanted men?! And what about the big dose of angst they're probably about to have to deal with once they hear the [I'm guessing] horrible story of Jo's dad's demise with the involvment of John?! Listen, y'all, our boys need some help here! I say bring on the allies! Is it too much for them to ask for a woman's arms to fall into now and again while they're going through all this?! They're only human! Let's be realistic!), then I say go for it.
And, ya know, um . . . it would probably mean we get more steamy, sexy, shirtless scenes. I'm just sayin'.
But, I mean it, they had better do this right. And TV, I think, has a history of doing it wrong with female characters. But Supernatural is a unique show. I have faith that they CAN get this right. If they're strong, bad (but strong and bad realistically. Not unrealistically tough and devoid of fear!), good-hearted, *competent* (no helpless, stand-there-screaming-while-bad-shit-is-happening, please!) chicks who work well with the guys, make their lives better and add interest . . . AND we don't have to see them all that much (heh heh!), then I'm fine with it. I see no reason not to trust Supernatural. They've proven to me that they know what they're doing.
P.S. I don't care for their names, though! Bleh! My apologies to anyone reading this whose name is Bela or Ruby!

Okay firstly my name isnt Jan , its just an expression over here in Australia.... I wont bore you with the details
And secondly, I'm not gonna even try to like them, I didnt like Jo but yet I still watched it. Of course Jo wasnt a regular character, but I'm with you on the not watching, although it doesnt matter if I dont watch because as I've said I'm from Australia so I wont help or hinder the ratings. I will however wont watch it on tv when it does come out here. I will download them and cut out all the Dean and Sam stuff and leave it at that
*goes to pray for the show previously known as Supernatural *

As far as I know 'shipping' is just a shorten word of 'relationship' right.... I never actually learnt what it meant as such but just went along with it , and as far as meta, I think its just info and stuff, like when I post ratings for Supernatural its classed as 'meta'.... also in the meta category are interviews *shrugs*.... I kinda hope that helps

Wow, okay. Now I feel like an ass. I'm so sorry! I've been trying to remember everyone's names as they've provided them, but I'm awful with names. So I just assumed... *cough* Well anyway. Sorry!

It might be awfully mean of me to deliberately not watch with the intention of sending them a message via lower ratings, but eh. That's all they seem to notice at the CW, so...

Hahaha! I don't blame you for not knowing. I learned much of the fan lingo years ago in the HP fandom. Shipping is, as chasingangel82 said, the short-form of "relationship". So if I ship, say... Sam/Sarah... then I support or write about, or hope that there will be a relationship between them.
As for meta, it's the critical thinking behind fandom. There's always the fic, the art, etc. But meta encompasses critical discussion about the show itself, the acting, ideas about the mythology and symbolism, etc. But it also includes things such as info about the show, actors, etc etc. So anything beyond "OMG I totally love Sam/Dean/that episode/Jensen/Jared/Kripke/etc" to the point of an actual THOUGHT process being discussed or presented, is generally classified as meta. What I usually see it as is essays, discussions, etc, though.

Yeeeeah. Which is why I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt until I see the girls. I just hope that they can continue to give us great seasons and that they don't flub again like they did with Jo. >.<

I agree that bringing in some girls could be nice. I mean, I'm a bit of an equalist and it drives me a little crazy when guys are ALWAYS better than girls. >.< I'm hoping that since we have two female writers on staff, they'll be able to portray realistic women rather than girls with fluff in their heads and boobs in their shirts. And I get that they're men who are interested in women, etc, but I just don't want the ROMANCE to become the focus of the show. As you said, they're in DEEP SHIT right now. And when somebody is trying to figure a way out of a one-year-to-live contract, as well as run from the FBI and kill a lot of bad-ass demons and deal with an increasingly tempermental half-demon little brother...I don't see how one would have time to start a romance. Juuuusssst saying.

Well. Yeah. Okay. There's that.

Oh fuck, I know. *cringe* Dean and Sam are such nice, normal names. They have a nice ring to it. Sarah, Jo, Ellen, all nice, normal names. And suddenly you bring in two chicks named Bela and Ruby? Urgh. The name Ruby always reminds me of that STUPID song that goes "Rubeh Rubeh Rubeeehhhhh!" And Bela is going to make me think of Bella(trix) in Harry Potter, so I'll see her as this insane bitch that needs to die. *flop* Not that I don't love the character of Bella in HP, but she IS an insane bitch. It makes her interesting, but I still want her to kick the bucket.

I don't mind. But if you ever need good definitions, here's some links to different fandom dictionaries/glossaries:

Regarding the NamesYeah, the names are soap opera-esque. I can easily imagine them being used in a soap: "Bela, is Ruby really my daughter?!" AND, isn't Bela a guy's name? As in Bela Lugosi?! Last I checked, the chick form is Bella! Please don't tell me she was named after Mr. Lugosi! That would be hokey!

Because Kripke Cleared the Air . . .I just want to say that I'm truly not worried about the girls now. Thanks to the links Sarah put up, I read a Kripke interview or two. He said that not only does he not have any current plans (although I'm sure he'll pounce on it if we seem at all OK with the idea) for making either girl a "love interest," but that they will be the boys' nemesises (that doesn't look right, but you know what I mean!)! Even though I actually think they have quite enough of those at the moment, thank you very much, it still looks like fun. That side I read was great fun. So, how about everyone officially stopping freaking out, OK? (I never was. Was a bit apprehensive, but never worried.) Eric seemed bothered that so many of us have doubted him and the rest of the Supernatural crew, and I don't blame him! I think this will, as Kripke said, be the best season yet!
Although, last I knew, Ms. Cassidy was setting out to be the next Britney Spears or Mandy Moore in Bubblegum Pop Land, so I'm having a seriously difficult time imagining her as this ruthless, light-on-morals ghost buster!! But, hey, some people are quite multi-faceted, so I'll certainly keep an open mind and give her a chance!
By the way, one thing I do worry a bit about is just the fact that these girls are not supposed to be good people. So, if the relationships do turn to romance for either brother, I certainly hope that said female has changed her ways! (Probably best if said ways were changed by a Winchester!) Ruby is described as (don't remember the *exact* wording) morally lacking and ruthless. (I wonder what her big "twist" will be? Is she a left over demon kid that didn't show up at the ghost town or something?! Is she their sister?! Ha! I'm just throwing stuff out there! And, I must say, I actually approved, for the most part, of her trying to get Sammy to lighten up on himself in that side. He shouldn't go as far with it as she proposed, true, but it would be nice to see Sammy stop letting things get to him so badly; she kinda has a point!) Bela as being into the supernatural business for the love of money and not really giving a damn about anything else! Suitable romantic material for our good guys?! I think not!
