My Friend Needs an Ass Kicking!OK, check out part of a chat I had with my English friend this morning:
ME: They've set up a lot of things, so it should be interesting. (I was talking about season 3)
FRIEND: well we can only hope that jensen eckles has an accident
ME: What? What is wrong with you? And it's Ackles.
ME: The guy deserves an Emmy!
FRIEND: eckles ackles
ME: He could have a big movie career easily. But I don't want Supernatural to end for a while.
FRIEND: i don't think he could have a big movie career
FRIEND: he is best suited to TV
ME: I disagree.
ME: You haven't been watching Supernatural. So, how would you know?
ME: He's damned good.
FRIEND: i disagree with you
FRIEND: good on tv doesn't always mean good in films
ME: Well, I disagree with your disagreement. You're just jealous.
ME: Of course it does! Acting is acting!
ME: If you're good, you're good!
FRIEND: nope
ME: He's already been in some, and has been reported to have done well! The movies themselves weren't good, but people say he did a great job.
ME: Well, one movie, anyway. He has another coming out. It looks sucky to me, but I bet he's good in it.
ME: Why do you think acting is any different for TV or movies? It's acting, period. You're weird!
FRIEND: if he's that good why is he in only sucky films?
ME: Because he's starting out! He's a TV actor; lots of them don't ever even make it to movies!
ME: And when they do, the transition usually takes awhile!
FRIEND: he's been around for ages!
ME: Yeah, on TV.
ME: He hasn't tried movies until recently. (As far as I know.)
ME: ALSO, lots of people who deserve more success don't ever get it. Doesn't mean they're not worthy. Just wrong place, wrong time, stupid employers, etc. (ADDITION FROM ME NOW: I also should've said: And maybe he's not actually interested in being a movie star; maybe he just enjoys doing the occasional, odd movie. Ya know, kinda like Johnny Depp in earlier days?)
ME: You keep watching Supernatural. He's excellent!
FRIEND: i haven't made it past episode two yet! (Friends, he's talking about Season 1, at that! I ask you, what authority does he have to judge Jensen's acting?!)
FRIEND: i've got a long way to go
ME: Yeah, see, so ya don't know! You should've seen him last night. Damn. So good.
So, could someone in England or with English connections (Kitty?) get my friend's ass kicked for me? Just a little? Ya know, just to wake him up? Then tie him up and make him watch all Supernatural episodes? Ha ha, guys are so jealous of gorgeous, successful guys! I stick by what I said. I think Jensen could do movies no problem, if he wants to. I admit, from what I can tell about the only two movies he's been in that I know of, they are bad. And I haven't seen either, but I bet he did a good job with what he was given to work with! Has anyone here seen Devour? What do you all think?
And, by the way, he later proceded to call Jensen's name "silly!" OK, if it weren't for the fact that he's supposed to send me the season 2 eps (and some other stuff) for my birthday (and, ya know, the fact that we've been friends for a decade or so now; there is that!) I might would have to end the friendship!

I do not live in England nor do I have any english connections but If I'm ever going to visit the UK I'd love to tie your friend to a chair and make him watch Supernatural! That would be so much fun!
And what does he mean, he hasn't made it past episode 2 yet? It took me only two nights to watch the complete first season and another two for the second. I hope he has managed to watch all episodes by now!
By the way, I like your name. Wish I had come up with it.

Re: My Friend Needs an Ass Kicking!
Well, I think Jensen could have a very interesting movie carreer. Now the question is whether he's interested in it or not. I think he has everything a real movie star should have - good looks, charisma, potential to become a great role model for people and first of all, he's got a talent! I'm really surprised he hasn't made it to Hollywood A-list yet. Perhaps he's just not interested, as he seems pretty shy and being a Hollywood star means millions of screaming fans etc.
He shot 3 movies:
- The Plight of Clownana (2004) (Plight of Clownana - Part 1 on YouTube; Plight of Clownana - Part 2 on YouTube) -> I found it pretty funny. Jensen had a very small part in it, and he was the producer and the second unit director or assistant director of the movie too.
- Devour (2005) -> The beginning of the movie was quite interesting but it's said the script had been re-written many times and the end had been changed, unfortunately not for the better. Nevertheless, Jensen did a great job and I think his performance was too good for such a kind of movie.
- Ten Inch Hero (2007) -> Jensen got one of the best reviews from all the actors involved in this movie and his character was usually the one people loved most. The movie itself got very good reviews too. I can't wait to see it!
- A Few Good Men (theatre play) -> Jensen got amazing reviews as well as the play itself. Though it was his professional debut on stage and other actors already had some theatrical experience, critics usually labelled his performance as the best and the most balanced.

I saw "Devour." The movie itself was pretty bad but even through that Jensen had some EXCELLENT moments, most particularly when his character's uncle died and a really, really cute/funny moment in the auditorium. Those come immediately to mind - but overall, he did very well. The movie, unfortunately, just sucked - the plot made no sense, etc., etc.
I know a few people who saw him in "A Few Good Men" and said he was PHENOMENAL, that the cast in general did an outstanding job and the he in particular gave stellar perfomances throughout it's limited engagement.
Good for him! And I can't wait for "Ten Inch Hero." I've heard some pretty good things about it.

:-DYep, I figured I'd find folks in agreement! I don't even know if a big-time movie career is something Jensen wants. He may not. It's fine if he doesn't. I'm just saying I think he could have it if he wanted it. But if he does want it, I'll be crushed if he doesn't devote himself properly to Supernatural for as long as it runs first!
Thanks, Jule! The line that's from is one of my favorites.
Jensen being shy. The jury's out on that for me. He may be shy for a celeb. But if you're truly shy, I don't think you go get such a public job! I'm shy. I couldn't do that. Of course, I'm beyond shy. True. But still. I dunno. And I admit he looks shy-ish in some public situations. But, then, in other ones, I've seen him look perfectly comfortable. He may be more private than shy. *shrug* It's damned cute, whatever it is. And, may I just say here how much I love it that he's (Jared either) not splashed all over the tabloids? That I don't turn on the TV and see people mobbing him while he drives up to a Taco Bell or something? All that vapid, annoying, trashy stuff?! Man, why can't more celebs be like that?! Does anybody really care that ANYONE, celeb or otherwise, is picking up a late-night snack?! I hate all that crap. I love it that he and Jared aren't involved in it. (Of course, that may purely be because they spend most of their time in Canada! Oh, well, whatever works!) I hope it stays like that. And, as annoying as all that is, I have to say I feel sorry for some of the celebs. I can't stand Britney (sp?) Spears, but the chick should be able to order a taco or go to the bathroom without the whole world watching! People are weird!

Definitely! Supernatural comes before any big-movie-career. Am I selfish? Nah...
| ExtraCookie wrote: | Thanks, Jule! The line that's from is one of my favorites. |
I guess you mean the one in Asylum: "See, that attitude there - that's why I always got the extra cookie." Or was there another reference to extra cookies that I missed?

I agree with you there. He can't be truly shy. I mean, the guy has a bunch of cameras following him the whole day.
Alone the thought of people staring at me with a camera in their hands, waiting for me to do something makes me sweat. I'd probably disappear into a hole in the ground.
Guess we can be beyond shy together, ExtraCookie.

Guess we can be beyond shy together, ExtraCookie. | Exactly! I don't believe in shy celebrities. They may be shy as far as celebs go, but they're not just tryly shy people. They couldn't be. (At least not overall. I guess even a celeb could be shy in certain situations. And, if a certain story I read about Jensen is true, he at least had a hell of a shy streak as a kid; at least around gorgeous girls! He's clearly outgrown it, if so!) Honestly shy people can't handle careers/jobs like that! And, cool, I could use the company!

Okay, I'll be hiding behind the potted palm with you guys - I'm on the shy side myself. And I'm in agreement - he is maybe a LITTLE shy . . . but more than anything, he just seems to be very, very private which I totally get and can understand.
Supposedly he has said if you want to avoid the spotlight, you can to a certain extent. Notice he doesn't go running around w/his shirt off or go partying all over and picking up chicks left and right. Umm . . . at least not that I know of.
That may be part of why he's not so media-mobbed. He's living relatively "normally". I dunno'. My two cents for the half cent it's worth . . .

Well, I don't know either but I know (I've read it somewhere) that he's auditioning for some bigger movie parts quite often, so it looks like he's interested in it. I'd really love him in a musical.
And yes, I love SN but if he wanted st else, I'd support him.

I find him cutely shy. He does seem uncomfortable in some situations, yet he is so gracious and professional at the same time. And so funny. I really love that he's so shy/private. Yet I find st 'devilish' about Jensen, like he was constantly making fun of all the people around him, nothing mean, nothing too big, yet st nicely devilish and definitely appealing.
But I think it's true that he probably wouldn't have chosen such a job, had he been extremely shy. But I still think he's not only private but shy too. At least in some situations.

Oh yes, I agree. He's such a perfect role model imo.

Jensen is my favourite actor. 'Nuff said.
As for the shy factor...from what I've seen and heard, I believe he actually IS quite shy. I, for one, am pretty shy. I don't like being singled out and I'm very self-conscious and HATE having my picture taken. But I was a drama student in high school, and was perfectly comfortable performing. Jensen was a stage actor and then went on to act in front of people he knows and feels comfortable with in closed sets all day. Even then, when asked what he's afraid of in one interview, he pointed at the camera, laughed awkwardly and said "that". It's when he goes outside the closed-in set and steps out from behind the cameras to see a bunch of shrieking fangirls that he gets uncomfortable. And hey, if I had thousands of girls CRYING and screaming my name, I'd be pretty uncomfortable, too. But if you watch his interviews, he's much more comfortable during the ones where Jared is standing right there with him. He VISIBLY relaxes when Jared shows up (ex. Kristin's Paley interview), and when he's without Jared, he very rarely looks at the camera when he's talking -- instead, he looks at the interviewer.
So yeah. I don't think you can't be shy if you're an actor -- I think you have to just really love what you do, and try to overcome that fear to do it. It's probably nerve-wracking for him, but the fact that he manages to put out fantastic performances despite it just speaks for his talent.

He is truly amazingly talented. He is #7 on my top ten list of actors which includes Tommy Lee Jones, John Lithgow, Denzel Washington, Al Pacino, etc. With very few exceptions, my list does not include a lot of "pretty boys." He (Jensen) can do comedy, drama . . . he BECOMES the part.
And, okay, I guess I can see where you CAN be shy and be an actor. I actually used to act when I was very, very young at the community theatre and loved it. However, I passed out (literally on the ground) when giving a speech. When I acted, I wasn't "me." So . . .
And you mentioned him visibly relaxing when Jared is around. You are right actually. He really does. Somone very kindly shared some Paley vids w/me and there is a big difference between that and say comicon. He was REALLY relaxed at Paley. At comicon, he seemed nervous but trying to hide it (gum-popping, etc.).
Hmmmm . . . so my feelings that maybe he was a LITTLE shy but more private than anything else . . . I may be having to revise those. He may be a lot more shy than I thought he was. Either way, his talent is as fantastic as his ass (yeah, I went there).

He does. Watching him is just... he's actually an artist, not one of those one-dimensional dummies standing in a set.
Yeah, in the Paley videos he was extremely relaxed. I was actually thinking specifically of the interview he was giving Kristin of E! at the Paley event. He's all uptight and awkward and shifty and suddenly Jared comes up behind him in the frame and he looks at him, and they both reach out and touch each other while still talking to other people, and then when Jensen looks back at the camera, he's all relaxed and smiling. And then when Jared comes up behind him and actually grabs his shoulders and saves him from awkward questions, you can actually see him sort of lean back into him.
It's the same with pictures of the two of them. In pictures where he's alone, Jensen looks like he's missing an arm or something, the way he stands there suspended awkwardly. Same with Jared. They stick their hands in their pockets for something to do and they both have these tight, practiced smiles. Pictures where they're together, they wrap themselves around each other, and suddenly they're relaxed and laughing and their expressions soften up and become genuine and suddenly it's like all is right in their worlds.
*cough* Not that I'm implying anything about their relationship... *wanders off to look at pictures of them together*

Sounds great! We could go to some Supernatural event together (without talking of course, because I don't know you two) and then hide behind the palm until it's over.

That's why I think Jensen is one of the best actors ever - his wide acting range. And I'm gonna repeat myself but an actor can be amazing at drama and suck at comedy because comedy is one of the most difficult things in acting and Jensen is just awesome at comedy.
I think he's both shy and private and that one feature supports the other and vice versa. (I'm not sure if I expressed it right, my English sometimes sucks horribly.)
Well, I think he's all fantastic. *eyes him* Yep, not only that one part. But I really love his character, personality and talent in the first place. And his looks, it's just a very very nice bonus.

Good Lord, so much to reply to!!!Basically, just yes to everything said! As to the shy thing, it just amazes me to think a shy person can do the job he does. But, then, I have to remind myself that MY shyness is normal shyness multiplied by 100. Confession: I guess it's more accurately social phobia, only without the panic attacks, etc. The thing is, once I get to know someone (if they're a likeable person, of course!) and get comfortable around them, I'm just fine! And, as you can probably guess by my epic posts, can even talk your ear off (Not getting to talk much, I always have a huge conversational build-up!)! It's the encountering-meeting-getting-to-know you parts that are horrible. And being the center of attention?! NOOOO. Freaks me out!
And if Jensen is really shy, I'm actually almost a tad angry with him! What the HELL does this guy have to be shy ABOUT?! He's talented, gorgeous, seems like a good person, seems to have had a charmed life. He's got the world by the tail, he can have pretty much whatever and whoever he wants! Shyness usually comes from insecurities, right? I'm "shy" for very good reasons! If I had what he has, I wouldn't be a bit shy! I'd be just like Jared (which, believe it or not, I started out that way! Until I was about 3, Mom was actually scared I'd get kidnapped cuz I'd walk right up to strangers and start blabbin'! I even learned to talk early!)! I AM like Jared, when you get to know me! In a lot of ways, anyway! Definitely the goofy way! (Um, but not in the fart-on-purpose-in-public way! LOL) And talkative way, for that matter! Jensen has nothing to be shy about! He has it all, he should just be struttin'! OK, and I admit, just like Jensen seems more relaxed, etc. around Jared (an extrovert) I'm the same way. I get more talkative, etc. when around an extrovert. I think it's a shy person thing; Agreed?
I get that about acting/shyness--not being "yourself" while acting. I do. But, as for me, I really REALLY wanted to try acting. (And singing. And dancing. And a bunch of other stuff. I took a couple of years of dance as a little kid. FUN!) In high school, I wanted to join the Drama Club SO bad, but I was TOO SHY to do it! I was the quiet, weird little outcast and the Drama Club was full of preps and other assorted popular kids, so I couldn't bring myself to do it! I've always regretted it, though. (Oddly enough, "preps" did occasionally befriend me a bit. I don't get it.) megeara (that was you, right?), you fainted while giving a speech?! Bless your heart! That never happened to me (although I felt like fainting!). But my cousins and aunt begged me to get up and sing a hymn with them at church when I was a teen, and my legs got so weak, I had to literally hold onto the piano to keep from falling, AND I started laughing uncontrollably (and, damn it, there was a cute guy in the audience!), I was THAT nervous! LOL! Needless to say, I never tried that again. Although, I guess I should've! So, OK, I'd organize a Shy Group for a convention, but . . . I'm too shy to do it! Har har! Too bad. The boys may have been amused to see a group of chicks peeking at them from behind plants.
Husitka (your English is pretty damned good, actually. It's the hardest language to learn, right? It is a nutty language!), don't jinx us, girl! The movies can wait! There's time, he's young. The 10 years for Supernatural prayer is a prayer I share! (Wow, I'm a poet!)
And, I hate myself for this but: Regarding Jensen's looks, since SOME of you already went there, how annoying is it that even things that look bad on normal people (light under-eye bags, crows feet) look GOOD on him?! What the. . . ?! Now, how does he pull that off?! He is just freakin' annoying, I tell ya! Hope to be annoyed many more years.

They look good on him because for some weird reason, he's aged BEAUTIFULLY. *swoons*
And yeah. The leaning on each other thing IS perfectly normal for a close friendship. I don't know why you guys think I'm implying something when I said I wasn't! Just because I talked about two really adorable guys who clearly love each other a LOT touching a lot more than straight guys usually do, doesn't mean anything! ... *koff* *smirk*
Ahem. Yes. Perfectly normal friends...
Anyway. I believe the conclusion to everything we've said so far on this thread is that Jensen is Brilliant. He's a fantastic actor, he's brought so much to his character and the show, and the show is for sure something Cookie's ridiculous friend should start watching.

Well, he seems to have it all, I agree but he still can have some self-esteem issues. St like: Do people love me for who I am or for what I look like... Don't ask, please. People who know me, will get what I'm hinting.
Thanks, ExtraCookie. I'm a language teacher, so it should be good enough, yet I'm still insecure in many things concerning English. And no, it's actually one of the easiest languages to learn. One of the hardest being Hungarian, Finnish and my language.
As for movies... I don't think 29 is that young. It's usually around this age that actors make it onto the big screen. I think it's really time for him to do it. I know he's busy with SN but he could shoot a movie during a break for example. And I don't think Eric has planned 10 seasons. So far he has been talking about 5. I guess no matter how the show is awesome, you can't go on with it forever, if you want it to be still that awesome as it is now, that is.
And in fact, stay 10 years with one role isn't the best thing for an actor either. I hope he'll be doing other things than just SN, though it is the best show ever.
Well, he's just naturally beautiful, EC. Or he's a devil. Or an angel. I bet he's all three.

And that didn't sound ironic at all.
And yes, go watch, EC's jerky friend. *prodding pirates*

What can I say? I'm a little sarcastic, and I have eyes...and a bit of a dirty mind.

Regarding My FriendI just had to jump in and say that, regarding the friend in this thread's title, he's actually quite a good guy. Besides being my buddy since 1997, he's also very generous. For instance, the Seasons 1 & 2 DVDs I have are courtesy of him. Not even X-mas or B-day gifts, either--just because. Those are just 2 of the many kind gifts he's given; just cuz he wants to. He's hung in there with me, being my buddy (which probably isn't easy!) all this time. He's even compliling a huge bunch of my favorite songs for me at the moment! He's a good guy; just not always good at appreciating good talent when he sees it, I guess! He STILL hasn't watched any more of the show!
Husitka, I don't know. Wasn't George Clooney well into his 30s at least when he got into movies? Look how well he's done! If the talent is there and the hard work is there, it can happen later. And I say 29 is damned young! Just my POV. Wow, I didn't know Eric said 5 years! Oh, well, that's about as good as we can hope for with the way TV is these days. Truth be told, we're pretty damned lucky we've gotten three seasons! It's not the kind of show that tends to do well, I guess. But there are shows that go on for about 10 years that stay great (and helped its actors launch movie careers, right?). I think Supernatural could, too, easily. But all I really hope for is that it never just disappears without wrapping things up. You know, a goodbye episode or glimpses of the future, etc. I don't want them to get cancelled while major things are up in the air. That would break my heart!

You know, they seem very responsive to and appreciative of the fans. I'd really like to think that they wouldn't leave us hanging in the wind w/o wrapping things up but . . . It's not always in their control. If they get cancelled w/o notice, what do they do? It would be nice to think that they'd film a "wrapping it up" episode to air on the internet if no where else. I know it's something I'd hope for but we fans don't always get that lucky.
I, for one, will be crossing my fingers and hoping for ten seasons - whether or not that's realistic!!!!

Yep!Exactly. It would be nice if they could make a goodbye episode on their own, if they got cancelled early. I've never heard of that being done, though. I'm guessing that's because of the money. The network funds these shows, I guess, so when they're cancelled, no more money to shoot an ep. with. Maybe all the Supernatural folks involved would do it out of their own pockets out of the love of the show and its fans. Yeah, right! Oh, well. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that it gets to live out it's life, OK?

Well "Kidnapped" and "Dejavu" had their episodes available online. Kidnapped they did a "wrap up" show that aired online. It didn't wrap things up very well but at least they made the attempt.
I'm hopeful (okay, being unrealistic again) that because we hear how much everyone is committed to the show and how close everyone is, they would do some kind of wrap up, something, anything!
Not that it will be necessary because it will go on for ten years like SG-1 did!!!! Twice as long as Kripke said - actually, I think what he said is that they had the story mapped out for five years. Doesn't mean they couldn't go ten!!
Oh! And the "final" episode could have a much "maturer" Sammy and Dean. Maybe Sammy played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Big Bad John) and Dean could be played by John Schneider (Papa Kent). I tell ya', Papa Kent and Big Bad John - charter members of the "hot dead dads" club - together in one show? Might be a really bad idea because my ovaries would probably explode from the excitement of the two of them in one scene together.
Okay - I'm off to daydream . . .

Cookie, I was just teasing about your friend. I figured that if he was your friend, he was probably a good guy.
I think you're right as far as the movie thing goes, too. Clooney's career definitely took off a bit later. Jensen certainly has the talent and level of committment required to do well in cinema. The fact that he truly appreciates it and respects his art-form will hopefully take him far.
As for my jokes about Jared and Jensen above, I just want you all to know I'm just kidding. I'm not a tin-hat who honestly believes that they're more than really good friends. It's very refreshing to see two young straight guys who care so much about each other and are comfortable enough around each other (and with themselves) to be that openly affectionate in public. Especially in their business.
Of course, if one day they actually did drop a bomb on our heads and come out, good for them. I really don't think their personal lives are much of our business, to be honest. (Sorry, I am so responding to the wankery that's been going on about the Jared/Sandy and Jensen/Daneel thing lately.) Whatever happens in their bedrooms is their business. And it would also be really adorable.
Finally, yeah. They ARE very appreciative of their fans. I want everyone to remember this. Jensen, Jared and the Execs/Writers of the show have proven time and again that they really love their fanbase. Dammit, they change their PLOTLINES for us because we rail against change. They deserve our support and respect.
That said, please go to the thread "Don't be hatin' on Jen!" in "General Show Discussion". I need to rant. *huffs*

See, it really doesn't surprise me at all that he's not big in Hollywood.
There's that thing where you apparently can't look that good and be that talented at the same time until you're like 40 or 50 or something like that
Which works for me because he can just keep doing SN until then
