There seems to be a lot of bitching over on the CW boards today. A few people have been accusing Supernatural fans of being fans because Jared and Jensen are good looking.

What do you guys think? I mean, sure. They are good looking. And we've even had discussion threads here about that. But I think here (more than the CW anyway) we've all proven that it's the show we love and not just the hot boys.

Thoughts?

I hate how people could think that.
It makes it seem like all of the fans are 12 year-old brainless horny fangirls that can't discuss and theorize the show.
I mean...if I didn't like the show for the show, I wouldn't be watching it just because there were gorgeous men on it.

) Anywho, there are plenty of shows that have nothing to offer but hot guys, if that's all that we were after, then we'd watch those shows. *shakes head* I don't bother 'cause I can't personally stomach them, there's a lot to love about Supernatural... And I don't know about you ladies, but I probably wouldn't find either actor as attractive if I hadn't watched them play Sam and Dean every week for two years!

Agreed. I feel like everyone's been accusing us of this lately, and it just baffles me. Even my friends are like "Pfft. Your boy show." And I just stare at them and go "No! The plot! And the characters! And sd;alfkjs;akldfjsj I LOVE it." To which they give me a look that clearly says 'yeah right' and say "Right. So the boy show."

Uncool. Anyway, yeah. I am so totally in it for the plot and characters. Last night had me in tears. I wanted to leap through the screen and hug Dean. *flop*

Okay so I have to admit, that I only checked it out because of Jensen, with that said, if it was crap then I wouldnt continue to watch it.

I think people who say stuff like that are just as bad or worse then the people they are accusing *shrugs* to each his or her own I guess, and hey as Jared has said before 'If they watch the show because they think I'm cute then thats good, they might like it and stick around' < okay that was just paraphasing cause I actually cant remember exactly what he said Very Happy

Speaking strictly for myself, I'm in it for the show. Like someone else mentioned, there are plenty of shows full of hot guys (for instance, soap operas [remember--our dear Jensen was on one!]. Soaps are Stud Worlds. I cannot bear soaps. Ughh. So I do not watch them. Even though they tend to be filled to the brim with super hot guys.) and I don't watch them. True, Jensen is probably the hottest guy on TV right now and Jared is one of the hottest. But that's not enough for me to get involved in (in this case, addicted to!) a show. Will I *watch,* as in strictly *look at*, not love or get involved or be impressed by a show, just to see a glimpse of a hunk sometimes. Um, Embarassed

suure. But I could never actually admire a SHOW or movie just because there's great eye candy in it. Of course, the eye candy here is a lovely bonus. I won't deny Jensen and Jared's looks make the show *extra* pleasant! Very Happy

The story, the writing, the plotline and, especially, the ACTING by Jensen and Jared are what do it. The writers do an awesome job and Jensen and Jared do an extremely awesome job; they truly breathe life into their characters. When actors can make you feel like their characters are real (which the two Js do), they are doing a fantastic job. And it's even more amazing that the two Js are able to breathe such life into their characters, considering what a surrealistic show they are in. They manage to shine through all of that improbability and surreality and make you believe it! You can actually imagine characteres like Dean and Sammy existing! And the writers give them a good world and good stories to work with. (And, even when they slip a little [*cough* "Bugs" *cough*] the guys still pull it off.)

However, yes, there are a lot of shallow people out there. And very young people. Teens have a lot going on hormonally and it tends to make them behave in ways more mature people don't. Nothing wrong with that, exactly; it's just biology. And, yes, it looks like there are a lot of teen fans. And they seem to be the most vocal as well. Hence the overall fan rep. *sigh*

Yes yes and yes to all of the above. I checked it out because LJ was suddenly swarmed with posts about it, and I was finally like "Duuude what IS this SHOW they keep going on about?" And so I downloaded it. The rest is history. Smile

But just to point out how very much the SHOW and not just the BOYS has me watching -- Jensen was hot in Smallville, and I stopped watching while he was in it because it became a Cornfest, and Jared was hot in House of Wax but to this day I absolutely refuse to watch that movie because it sounds so stupid. *laughs* The boys ARE Sam and Dean for me. They bring, as you said ExtraCookie, such LIFE to the characters. Everyone does an amazing job, but the boys truly shine in their spotlight. It's them I watch for, but not because of their looks -- because of their talent!

I'm watching the show because of urban legends, mysteries, storylines, great work done by both the cast and the crew of Supernatural and because of great acting. Yes, I'm a Jensen fan and I find him very attractive. But he's my favourite actor and he wouldn't be if he was ONLY an eye candy. My favourite actors must be great actors and interesting personalities in the first place. Yes, they are usually attractive to me but it's not their appearance that keeps me watching them and admiring them on and on and on.

It looks like there have been a lot of people who seemed to diss Supernatural and its fans. I'm sad because of it but I know why I'm watching the show. Enough said. They can think whatever they want.

But I must say I feel sorry for the boys and for the crew. If they read those rants about most SN fans watching only for hot boys, they must feel sad. And that makes me sad too because we can read and watch how much talent, time, effort, love and heart they all put to this show.

It makes me hope that Kripke came across the link to our little forum when he was going through the CW boards. ...then again, the thought of them reading our Wincest rants sort of makes me blush a little. *cough*

But as to what you were saying about the "they're so hot" gushing that can be found just about everywhere -- I think most shows get that. But there's enough honest discussion and appreciation of talent going around to balance it out. I find LJ is a place that's more discussion-oriented than "so hot"-oriented.

see, the problem is....every show goes through this, with the more shallow of a fandom showing up. it's simple as people are flipping through the channels, coming to our show, and are going Shocked

when people first come to a show, they rate it on visual first, because that is the first impression. people will watch, i'm sorry to say, because we have two fexy men doing all sorts of awesome and hilarious stuff! its not 'til later that people realize that our show actually has guts, heart, and insides Wink

be patient with the fangirls...eventually they come around Very Happy

Yeah, Wench, but lots of these fangirls seem to be long-time fans! If they haven't seen the more intelligent aspects of the show by now...well I'm not too sure that says much for their own intelligence. *laughs* Then again, I sort of remember what it was like to be 13 and in fandom (er...I say "sort of" because it was six years ago...ouch). Of course, I was never one for using a lot of terrible spelling/grammar and excessive amounts of exclamation marks (ex. OMGAWDZ thye r sooooooooo hawwtttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!!1!!). I wanted to fit in with the older fans, so I tried to just be a normal person instead of a typical teenager. I don't know where my impatience has suddenly come from -- possibly from years of dealing with airy teens in fandom. >.< I feel so old and jaded suddenly.

Okay, this is really ridiculous!
Why do people always have to play the you-only-watch-for-the-pretty-boys-card when it comes to Supernatural?
It's not like the actors in all the other shows were completely ugly!
Examples:
Wentworth Miller is hot but does anybody say people are watching Prison Break just to stare at him? I haven't heard that yet.
Same goes for Grey's Anatomy. I mean, Patrick Dempsey is so cute but I don't watch GA any more because it turned into a soap opera (hope I don't hurt anybody's feelings by saying that).
And the CSI-boys are pretty yummy, too, but nobody refers to CSI as the pretty-boys-show.

Exactly, Jule. Although I was half-afraid that people would ditch Wenty because of the rumours that he was gay. People can be so close-minded and shallow. I don't watch the show, but I've heard he's good and he doesn't deserve that disrespect.

well, i hadn't known anything about Jared before this show(and now i'm a Sam-girl lol) and i only knew Jensen from Smallville. i started watching the show because it looked like it was gonna be pretty sweet.

now, don't get me wrong, Jared and Jensen are definatly good-looking guys, but i can't JUST watch a show JUST because some guy is hott. there's gotta be decent acting, and some sort of plot. there's hundreds of television shows with hott guys on them, but i don't watch because either the acting is horrid, or the show just doesn't interest me.

I can't watch shows or movies just because the guy is hot either. Believe me I tried, *coughdevourcough* but it's just not for me. If the show or movie sucks, it sucks and not even a hot guy can save it. I'm sure there's some people who watch shows for that reason, but to just stick everybody in that same box is just crap.
