3x08 A Very Supernatural Christmas (Updated Dec 10)THREE MORE DAYS! fa;skldfj;aslfjs;lj
THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOMELY ADORABLE AND SAD AND FAB. <3
*cough*
Summary is here, and more of it here. Then there's sides here, here, here, and here.
ETA: The episode pics are up! Also, Ridge Canipe will be returning as Dean, with Colin Ford playing Sam.
ETA2: Three preview clips are now up on Seat42f's homepage in the preview video box. Check them out! We have Sam and Dean caroling, Sam and Dean getting accused of pedophilia, and Sam and Dean chatting about Mary Poppins!
1) FLASHBACKS = <3 Y/Y?
2) Finally a Christmas episode! How happy are we?
3) w00t back in with the pagan godesses/gods!
4) Do we still like/dislike John?
5) Is it awesome that Sammy gave Dean his necklace?
6) How cute was it that they both go to any lengths to give each other Christmas when the other desperately needs it? *weeps*
7) References to S2 finale! What'd you think of that?
8 ) Are we nervous for the little actors? I think it's great that they managed to do flashbacks even without JDM! I hope the actors are good ones and that they look at least a little like the two from last season. I'd actually prefer if they were the same ones -- it HAS been two years later, after all, and that's the age difference from that one and this one, too. Hm.

I'm slipping into my jammies tonight and reading the sides for aSuper X-Mas. Thanks, Sarah, for getting these up here for us. I really appreciate
finding these summaries and sides all in one place. WooHoo.

Hey, you're welcome! I figured it'd be nicer if we could always find the episode threads we wanted to be a part of, so I'm glad you agree!

Re: 3x08 A Very Supernatural ChristmasWow! Actually I'm not so much into Christmas episodes in tv-shows because they usually tend to be cheesy all over and make me wanna puke, but this one sounds great!
Yeah, flashbacks of their sad childhood. *takes out tissue and wipes away tears*
I'm still not sure how I feel about John. Somehow I like him and I'm sure he did the best he could in this situation, but there are these moments when I just want to reach into the screen and smack him one, like in Something Wicked when he left his ten-year-old (is this the correct age?) to babysit his six-year-old in a motelroom for days and then got mad at the ten-year-old for not doing it properly.
And now leaving them alone in another (probably shabby) motelroom over Christmas... Come on John, you could at least have dropped them off at Bobby's or Pastor Jim's!
And poor Sammy, finding out all that monster stuff on Christmas. How sweet of Dean to steal a tree and presents to make Sammy happy, even if it didn't work! It's the thought that counts. And Sammy giving Dean Dad's present... Aww... They are always so cute together.
I know it is rather sad but I ended up laughing when Sammy unwrapped the Malibu Barbie. Just couldn't help it.
Those pagans gave me shivers. They seem to be very sadistic godesses/gods and they really make the Scarecrow-god look like a nice guy. At least he didn't torture the people before killing them. Fudge-Madge sounds like someone I will hate with passion for the few minutes she is on screen. I cheered when she got stabbed with her Christmas tree.

Ditto. But I was never afraid that a Supernatural episode about Christmas would be cheesy. It's essentially impossible for this show and those boys. I can't imagine them sitting around eating a great big feast in matching sweaters, exchanging quaint little gifts. The dark Santa I can TOTALLY see. XD

I'm such a flashback whore. I LOVED Something Wicked. *_*

Exactly. I am so torn over the issue of John. I get that he wanted to keep them safe, etc. But then I think "Well why didn't he STICK AROUND then?" *flop* Sometimes I do think he did the best he could under the circumstances, and other times I think he let his revenge make him a selfish bastard.

AND not coming back for Christmas like he promised he would! *shakes fist*

Dean is seriously The Best Big Brother Ever. And Sammy is the Cutest Little Brother on TV. Because I dunno, my little brother had his moments.

HAHA I know. I can just picture their expressions. Sam is probably going to be like o.O and Dean will be :O "oh shit".

And the Scarecrow was pretty mindless. These ones are conscious beings! Pretty sick! And yeah, that was hysterical. Only the Winchesters would stab someone with their own Christmas tree. <3

I didn't know you had comedic writing talents!!!! I am a very visual/imaginitive person, and I SAW that when I read it!! Thanks so much for the huge laugh!! I'm still laughing! Dean (in red, bulky, fluffy sweater with white reindeer on it): "Aftershave! Why, thank you, Sammy!" Sammy (in white, bulky, fluffy sweater with green X-mas trees, holding X-mas mug of egg nog, hair slicked back, of course): "You're welcome, Dean! And thanks again for the book!" They hug warmly. *snicker*

Even if it turns out he WAS a bad guy! I don't care, the speculation and wondering are killing me!

OK, let's see: He didn't stick around because he felt he'd be serving his kids better by going straight to the evil that threatened them and ELIMINATING IT rather than huddling with them somewhere all the time, just waiting for it to attack. He went on the OFFENSE instead of waiting for the DEFENSE. Wasn't a perfect solution. Had its bad drawbacks, obviously. But, really, I see it as the lesser of the two evils. Sit there huddling with the kids all the time, waiting for things to come at them, said things having the advantage of surprise, if nothing else, and hoping he could defend them. . . or get off his ass, learn his enemies, and take them head on, and wipe as many of them out as possible, while training the kids to be strong and knowledgeable (sp.??) and find trustworthy friends to leave them with whenever possible. Option 2 looks smarter to me. It's not a perfect option; NEITHER are. But he knew what was out there, and knew that one of those things, at least, may be specifically targeting at least one of his kids. And had already taken out his wife. Solution? Find it and kill it before it finds the kid(s) and kills him(them). Yes, it caused shitty problems. Yes, those problems suck ass and I HATE it that the boys had to deal and still are dealing with them (and so did John! He knows his methods caused regrettable problems! He felt bad about it!). But I think it was the best option he had.
And as to not making it back for Christmas? As always with John, we don't freakin' know why he didn't. I bet he couldn't. And why do people assume that Pastor Jim and Bobby were just always available and convenient to get to?! People, they had their own lives and things to deal with (Bobby is a hunter too, remember?! And pastors are BUSY people; esp. THAT pastor, I'm sure, with his apparent hunting on the side!)! They weren't just around any time they were needed for baby-sitting! Also, the Winchesters traveled the country. I'm telling you, I bet the times he didn't leave them with a trusted friend were times said friends were too far away or simply unavailable! He only had 2, mabye 3 or 4 (we don't know anything about Caleb and not much about Missouri) people he trusted the boys with, as far as we know. That hardly covers the whole U.S.A.! And, yes, it sucks. I'm with ya there all the way!
| Quote: | | HAHA I know. I can just picture their expressions. Sam is probably going to be like o.O and Dean will be :O "oh shit". | You KNOW that's gonna be hilarious. I hope the little actors do it right. I hope they paid attention to the two Js and got their nuances down as well as kids can. "Maybe Dad thinks you're a girl" (or however he said it) HA HA HA HA!!!
I think this is going to be a sweet, fun, terrific episode.

*giggle* I try. And you're quite welcome. XD I WAS TOTALLY THINKING REINDEER. Oh god, not the SLICKED HAIR. *hides* Don't forget that the gifts would be wrapped in shiny gold and silver wrapping, with little pink and purple bows tied neatly on top, sitting beneath a decked-out Christmas tree, complete with a light-up angel sitting on the very top. There'd have to be Christmas carols playing in the background. And just in following with the trend, it'd have to be "White Christmas". *snicker*

...did I just hear you say that you don't care if John was a bad guy? o.O
CALL THE COASTGUARD!
Actually, I've never imagined John being a bad guy. I think he really was just on the hunters' side, saving people, hunting things. I really hope he wasn't a bad guy. And I dunno about "secrets". I think a lot of his secrets were more things he just never talked about rather than big things that would change everyone's opinions of him.
| Quote: | | OK, let's see: He didn't stick around because he felt he'd be serving his kids better by going straight to the evil that threatened them and ELIMINATING IT rather than huddling with them somewhere all the time, just waiting for it to attack. Yeah, but...meanwhile, he left them alone for days at a time. What if something attacked them THEN? (Re: Something Wicked) What if someBODY attacked them? What if they ran out of food? What if, you know? That's the part I have issue with. I get the eliminating monsters and training his sons to protect themselves thing. But all he'd done at that point was teach Dean how to shoot a gun. Sam didn't even know about the monsters in the dark at that point. So Dean would've been responsible for protecting them both when he didn't even really know that much.
But beyond that, I'm thinking about the promise aspect of this episode. Saying that you'll be home to spend Christmas with your kids and then just never showing up, never leaving a gift or calling or anything...that's lame. Even for John, who was pretty consumed by hunting.

Agreed. I don't think I'm the one who said that, though.

*giggle fit* Oh I can't wait. And yes, I so hope they get it down right. I really hope they bring back the two they had in Something Wicked. I think they did a really good job.

He certainly did not not come back on purpose (Is this sentence grammatically correct? I can't express myself properly today. Must have been studying too much. My brain feels pretty empty...). But still... it's Christmas. Couldn't he at least have called? It can't have been completely impossible to get to a phone.

Yeah, I mean, I really do think John *couldn't* make it back. And, ya know, whatever kept him from that may have also, logically, kept him from being able to call. BUT it sure doesn't look good, does it, knowing that he also fell off the grid/didn't answer their calls during those times when they were grown up. I admit! I do! At the least, he should've explained to them later why he was away so long and didn't call. Now, of course, he very well may have explained things to them later, concerning this episode & "Something Wicked." But he sure as hell didn't explain the later incidents. True, everything happened so fast when he met back up with the boys. In every scene we saw, except the down time he had with Sammy while Dean was getting blood, they were busy busy busy or sleeping. And Dean got back with the blood before John and Sammy could talk more and they needed to get going then. Maybe he simply didn't have the time. Or couldn't explain things without alerting them to the evil Sammy situation. If he hadn't been about to die, he may have never said anything about it! And I really think that, given what else we know, that's just because he thought he could take care of it himself and wanted to keep them out of it as much as possible. I'm sure he had already decided to have the job of saving or killing Sammy. Just was forced into putting it on Dean's shoulders when he knew he was checking out.
And Sarah, YES to the rest of that cheesy holiday vision! And it's freaky you saw the reindeer sweater too! Don't tell me you saw it on Dean; that'd be creepy! And, don't hit me but, I LIKE Sammy's hair slicked back! So dapper! Sorry!
And, Sarah, I didn't really mean BAD, as in just an evil person at heart. I meant bad as in the way most think of him. Intentionally being a bad dad. Doing bad dad things. That would make me sad, but I love the show and trust the writers, etc. So I could handle it, yes. Call off the Coast Guard! (But, if it does turn out that way, call IN the Tissue Brigade. If there is such a thing )
And as for Mary, I don't imagine her evil, either. But I do imagine her possibly causing all of the Winchester troubles somehow. Probably completely unintentionally. Like what you said, basically. But it would still be a shock, I'm sure, to realize that Mary was the genesis of all the boys' and John's supernatural trials and tribulations. And, wow, that'd be sad, huh? And juicy!
