Is anyone reading the Supernatural Origins comic. So far I have the first & second issues. I belong to a comic subscription service, so I only get 1 shipment a month to save on shipping costs - so I always have to wait for the next issue. Hopefully I'll be getting issue #3 soon.

If anyone is reading, maybe we could start a discussion. If no one is reading, I'd be glad to do a recap.
Smile

I have only seen the first issue because people posted scans of it online.
There were parts of it that didn't sit well with me. I felt like the writers were maybe trying a little too hard to keep it in that standard comic book formula of dramatic dialogue, etc. And they made several mistakes regarding names, dates, plot points... I don't know. I didn't hate it or anything, but I didn't feel the love either.

What about you?

The artwork (to me anyway) isn't good at all. I look at the spectacular art work from some graphic novels that I read, such as Heroes and Green Arrow, and it's disappointing that Supernatural isn't up to par.

The story is getting better, and the author has admitted to the mistakes and is planning on correcting these when the trade paperback comes out.
Now, that means that I'm going to have to buy the trade paperback, but no problems there since I collect all things Supernatural. Oh what a sacrifice! LOL!

I've also subscribed to the new mag that should be out around Sept/Oct. Can't wait for that.

Agreed 100%. Personally, my favourite graphic novel series is Sandman by Neil Gaiman, and he has various artists draw for his stories. The reason for that, though, is that he wanted a different style for every one of his characters' POVs. But the art is very graphic novel instead of standard-issue comic book. And this feels like it's a comic book trying to be a graphic novel, but both the art and the story aren't living up to that genre.

What have they said is going to be in the mag?

Well the mag is from Titan, which produces the Charmed, Smallville, Buffy, Alias, etc mags. They usually do a great job - especially in the photo depatment.

I used to get the Charmed mag and the photos were really spectacular - and different from what you see all over the internet. Some of the regular features in the Charmed mag were a bit lame - but they did some great interviews.

Hopefully the SN mag will be just a nice. It's a 6 issue mag, which means every 2 months instead of every month - but I can live with that. I'm sure they'll be scans all over the net as soon as it comes out.

I've only seen the preview that was (still is, I guess) on the CW site. I hope to get my hands on it at some point. I'm not into comics or graphic novels; whatever you want to call them. But I love Supernatural so much and want all the info on it I can get that I'm willing to even read a comic if it will tell me more of its story.

Until I do, though, would someone who has read it be so kind as to tell me one thing? That is: How has the comic depicted John so far? Has it done anything that may change the minds of the John haters? Or does it confirm their idea that he's just a bad father, rather than a very loving father who just wants to protect his boys and other people while seeking revenge and is, unfortunately, damaged so, therefore makes lots of mistakes? FYI for you newbies, I am one of the few John *lovers.* I believe what he said about himself to Sammy; that he's "made some miskates" but always did the best he could. I believed that from the start. Seems obvious to me that both boys believe this, too. And who'd know better than them?! Just wonder if the comic book backs me up or the John haters! Or neither!

He's on my mind lately. I watched "Dead Man's Blood" the other day. Had forgotten what a terrific ep. it is; one of my two top favorites, I think (No. 1 being "Faith.") I've been annoyed for a long time that John's last words to Sammy were to ask him for a cup of caffeine, but seeing this reminded me that he did, in fact, make some peace with him earlier. That conversation with Sammy about how he never wanted this kind of life for him and only ever wanted to protect him, ending with Sammy realizing how alike they actually are and John's sweetly funny admission of spending Sammy's college fund on ammo (gotta love that shared laugh between the two) is wonderful. One of the absolute best Supernatural moments, in my book. (Damn, Jeffrey's good! I miss him!) Ya know how Dean's always making us want to hug him? Well, I wanted to hug John at that point! (Has he acted on a soap opera too?! Laughing )

Yeah, he's on Grey's Anatomy.

*snickers* I know, I'm mean.

But no. I don't think they've painted him as an asshole. I'm not sure if I've seen the whole thing...I just read what was on the internet. I think it was on the Supernatural wiki.

I have issues 1 & 2 and will getting #3 soon. I'll write up a recap and post it. This way you'll have a clue if you want to get the trade paperback when it comes out.

Baically what I know about comics (and it's very little) - if the series does well, and there are multiple issues, they sometimes issue a trade paperback. The paperback is the size of a comic, but it has the multiple volumes of the comic all rolled into 1 book. I have the Serenity trade paperback and it contains volumes (or issues) 1-4 of the comic series. I also have a bunch of the Green Arrow trade paperbacks. I did this because I got into collecting too late to start from the beginning - and if you have to get back issues they can be quite expensive. For example, Issue #2 of Supernatural Origins is sold out by my distributor, and since Issue #1 is almost sold out the price went from $2 to $6, and it will continue to rise as they become hard to find.

I belong to a subscription service so I will always be guaranteed an issue as soon as it comes out - the problem is that I have so many that I subscribe to that I only do 1 shipment a month to save money. So I have to wait until the end of the month to get a comic that came out at the beginning of the month. Must save those pennies!

Oh, cool, a recap would be great! Very Happy

And I hope they do issue a trade paperback; sounds like what I need!

And glad to hear that John's not coming off as an asshole so far! That's cuz he's NOT one, I tell ya! Very Happy

P.S. I'm with whoever complained about the artwork. (I've read other complaints about it, too.) Like I said, I'm not into these things but, if nothing else, I've seen the Smallville comic things they showed on TV and, compared to those, the Supernatural artwork is horrible to say the least! They didn't even seem to get the boys' eye colors right! It'd be nice if they'd fire the current artist(s) and get whoever does the Smallville ones!

P.P.S. A Supernatural magazine?! Where would I find such a thing? The book store? What section? When that comes out, I'd definitely like to check it out, too! Man, I haven't even been in a book store (except one dealing in used books) in years! Yes, I'm a hermit!

OK - quick note - I'm on my lunch break, but I will put together a recap of the comic. As for the magazine - my local Barnes & Noble carry most of the other Titan mags so I'm hoping they'll carry this one too. But for those who want to subscribe, here is the link
