So Jensen Ackles, that man we all love, did an interview with TV Guide.
In said interview, he mentioned being happy that there were more characters on the show now, because he and Jared work really hard and long hours. He also mentioned that the CW didn't promote the show AT ALL this year and that he really wishes they had more support from the network. Finally, he mentioned that he is dating somebody.
Some people in the SN fandom (supposedly FANS of the man) decided he was a lazy asshole who didn't appreciate his fans, complained too much, and had shitty taste in women.
1) I cannot believe that they would jump down his throat for saying he works hard. How are these people LAZY? It makes me wonder if the wankers have ever been involved in a dramatic production in their lives. Acting SOUNDS easy, sure. But when you're doing your own stunts, working at night in the rain, memorising a dozen pages of dialogue and churning out realistic emotional scenes for 15 hours a day, it takes a toll! These actors, and the rest of the crew, work harder than anybody else in Hollywood. Being the only two regulars on an hour long show once a week is HARD.
2) Jensen doesn't appreciate his fans? BULLSHIT. He and the rest have made it clear more than once that what keeps this ship afloat is the fanbase and that they are very grateful to us. Hell, they changed SCRIPTS and PLOTS for us just because we didn't like a character! Despite being JUMPED by crazy fangirls, Jensen has still made the effort to be at all the conventions and conferences he's invited to, and has (from reports) been nothing but an absolute sweetheart. He took WINCEST in stride, people. He probably knows that people write graphic stories about him fucking his best friend, too, but he's never once complained. He works 15 hours a day to make a good show for us, still sits down (taking time out of his day) to do interviews, and they're saying he doesn't care? as;dlfkjas;dfljas;dlfjks;fkj
3) Where did this fan ENTITLEMENT come from? I mean, hell. I'm the first to say that once that show is on the air? Once it's out there and the writers can't change it? It's ours. If we want to interpret that episode one way or another, who's to say we can't? Because if the reader of literature sees something in a piece, they see something. And nothing the author says or does after that piece has been printed can change that. (Ex. People thought Lisa was lying about Ben being Dean's son. There are a lot of good arguments to back this up. If the writers didn't mean for that to happen, they shouldn't made the evidence against him being Dean's a lot more definitive than a "blood test". But anyway, not getting into that here, just wanted to use an example.) Kripke or Edlund or Gamble or anyone else... they've put it out there. They can't change it now.
BUT. THE ACTORS OWN THEMSELVES. AND THE WRITERS/PRODUCERS OWN THE SHOW.
We do not get to tell the writers what to do based on what WE want. That's bullshit. Telling them they're not allowed to bring on new characters in order to lighten the load on the current actors is just cruel. WTF? Those boys have a right to a LIFE. And right now, they don't have one because they WORK TOO HARD. That's totally unfair, and it's bitchy of the fans to say.
4) Who gave us the right to tell Jensen who to date? Fine. His girlfriend is a OTH girl that could use some work on her acting skills (I wouldn't know, I'm just going by what I've heard). Whatever. So people think she's skanky. Whatever. We don't know HER and we don't have any right to bitch at Jensen just because his last girlfriend was a Playboy model (what boy doesn't want to date a Playboy model?) and his current girlfriend showed up in Maxim? Dude. The interviews I've read where Jensen talks about Joanna Krupa? Never mentioned liking her for her body. He said she understands his dedication to his work and that romance scenes on screen don't mean anything, and she supported him and made him happy. He seems to be really happy with Daneel Harris. (If that is, indeed, who he is dating.) He's a very private man, who has said before that he's really shy around girls and doesn't know how to flirt or show he's interested. If he's found somebody who makes him happy and who will support his career, who are we to say he's not allowed to have that? And who are we to say that she's not? He's a very private man and I don't understand why people refuse to allow him his privacy.
*scream of frustration*
Anyway. I think the interview was great and I think he did a really gutsy thing in complaining about Dawn Ostroff and her lack of support. And I think the man's dry humour is absolutely adorable.
PS: I'm not saying all of fandom reacted this way. This is just my reaction to those who did.

Wow Sarah, it' really weird, but that was exactly what I thought when I read all this complaining about him. I wanted to rant myself, but unfortunately I lack the necessary english vocabulary to do it. I could write it all down in german but then nobody would understand it. Sigh. I really need to improve.
But back to the topic:
He didn't come off as complaining to me, it was a simple statement from his side. (Lets be honest, if any of those complainers (fans?) had to work 15 hours/day... I wouldn't want to hear them.) And even if he was complaining, hell, he has every right to do it! It's healthy and very human to complain. It would have been really annoying if he had cemented a fake smile on his face and told the interviewer how he loved being out in the cold all day and never getting enough sleep.
To point 4): I have absolutely no idea who he is currently dating or who he was dating in the past. And I couldn't care less. Let him date whoever makes him happy. It's his life. Those complaining fangirls really have to learn that they don't own him! |

Ich wuerd's verstehen! LOL (That's I'll understand it for all you non- german's, LOL
Sarah, I agree with you.
1) I have to admit first that my first action was a huge sigh, thinking here we go again, but then I started thinking about it. I'm a mom of two girls and I complain about how horrible they are, how hard my day was, blah, blah, blah. Yes, I knew what I got myself into when I got preggo, but sometimes I just have to get it off my chest, that's it, not more but not less either. And that's how I see it now when they talk about having a hard time just being on the show by themselves.
Now I'd gladly trade the three months off in the summer and the paycheck if they're interested, LOL
2) I'm not even going to touch that one. If people think that he doesn't appreciate his fans they're simply not talking about the same guy. He has shown more than enough just how much he appreciates everything the fans do...well maybe not some of them
3) I don't even know what to say about this, so I'll just say this: Giving your opinion on something on the show is one thing, expecting the writer to follow every little whim you got is another. It's their show, they decide what's going to happen in it. I think just the fact that we know they care enough to listen to what we have to say is good enough. There are shows out there that don't give a shit what the fans think. We're lucky enough to not be one of them.
4) The dating, oh geez I don't get why people can't just leave him alone. Just because he's on TV doesn't mean his life is yours. He's still allowed to do whatever he wants, if you like it or not. If she makes him happy that's fine with me, I honestly don't care who he's dating. I don't even care if he's dating at all.
Maybe they get so pissed because it ruins the hope of them meeting him one day and him completely falling in love with them? I mean the chance is there right?
Or maybe they're just jealous because they don't look that good? Who knows *shrug* _________________

1) Aw, Jule. I bet you do have the vocab to do it. Just let it all out!
2) HAHA, Jasmin! You're right. I bet they are just freaking out because they want to keep that fantasy. But there's others (tinhats) that I know for sure are completely convinced that he really IS dating Jared and that Sandy and now Daneel are their beards. *rolls eyes really hard* |

*SIGH* Damn, he's cute!
OK, confession: I'M his new girlfriend. Yep, it's me. He was just passing through; you know how celebs love to hang out in Kentucky. And he was at my grocery store; cuz you know how celebs love to do their own grocery shopping. And he was impressed with my method of picking out fruit and sparks flew. So, be nice to me!
That interview was cool! I don't see what there is to complain about! True, now that he's dating me, it's not so likely he'll fall for any of the rest of you, but other than that, where's the prob.? Judging anyone's significant other is uncalled for. I don't know or care who he's with (well, I'd be mildly interested to see her, I guess. Just to see what they look like together) but am glad he's got somebody! Everybody needs somebody! Celeb relationships are tough and don't tend to last that long. I wish him the best of luck! Uh, with me.
I didn't even see what he said as necessarily complaining. Just saying how it was. And I'd think a 15-hr. work day would sound awful to anyone. So it certainly sounds hideous to someone with chronic fatigue, like me! I understand them needing a break. True, I hope the focus stays mostly on them, but of course they need a break. I love the show, but it's not worth killing them over!
Don't get what about that interview made anyone think he doesn't care about us, either.
And people seriously think he and Jared are gay? What has this world come to? It's a homophobic, hyper homo-aware world, I guess! Once upon a time, friends of the same gender (yes, men as well as women) would regularly hug each other, etc.! Now, unless you do no more than shake hands with someone of the same gender, it means you're gay? Even if you're very close friends? Weird. Kids these days. I've nothing against being gay, by the way! It's just that I get absolutely zero gay vibes from either of them. Just shows you how things have changed from when I was a teen. The two Js are obviously old-school friends. Which is awesome.
Oh, and those of you here in my age range (I'm 34), did you notice he said we were "actually pretty cool?!" Woo hoo! Yes, we are. Thanks, Jensen! We're especially cool to date. I'm just sayin' _________________ "Decapitations aren't my idea of a good time, I guess." --Sammy, "Bloodlust" |

Well, to be honest? It'd be beyond hot. But I (and most of the rest of the SN RPS fandomers) realise that they ARE just really good friends. My friends and I, and my family and I are all really touchy-feely. I think people have way too many hang-ups about sex. It's gotten to the point where I've been criticised for how close I am with my brother. If we hug "too much" or sit "too close" or talk about "things that we shouldn't share with each other", we're accused of being 'abnormal'. Personally, I'm glad I'm such good friends with him. And I can't really turn off my instinct to rub his head if he's got a headache, because that's what I grew up doing! Same with my friends. My family is so touchy feely, that that's just how I am, so they've had to learn to deal with frequent hugs and kisses and me draping myself all over them.
So yeah. What I'm saying is that it's perfectly normal for them to be doing those things as friends. And actually, it's really nice and endearing to see how much they actually care about each other, considering this is Hollywood. And yeah, it might be hot to think about what it would look like were they to have mad hot monkey sex together, but I wasn't aware until recently that some people honestly believe that they ARE. o.O |
